VITRA’S CHAIRS EXHIBITION DESIGN – LA CAPELLA, BARCELONA
The exhibition «SILLAS DE PELÍCULA», sponsored by Vitra, explores how iconic furniture has influenced cinema and television over the years.
It focuses on showing how these pieces, in addition to being functional, become key elements in audiovisual storytelling, helping to define characters, spaces, and eras.
Location:
The exhibition is located in the heart of Barcelona, in an iconic space, La Capella, an old chapel converted into an exhibition space. In addition, a tipi-like structure has been designed to accompany the exhibition. This structure is placed in high-traffic areas throughout Barcelona, changing locations every 4 days, to be displayed in various places around the city and thus offer greater visibility and publicity for the exhibition.
Exhibition:
The exhibition is divided into 5 themed rooms, a space dedicated to cinema, and an «immersion» room. Additionally, there are projections on vintage televisions (Saña 00 and Room 01).
The route is marked, but visitors can also access the different spaces from various points.
Each space follows a color code, which changes according to the room, but is always materialized with a soft cotton carpet on the floors and walls.
Between each space, there is an entrance shaped like an arch, referencing, from a distance, the arches of La Capella, with a curtain resembling a theater curtain that follows the color scheme of the room.
Chairs:
Recycled polycarbonate shelves are created, backlit with the same tone as the room, where the furniture pieces are displayed.
Pedestals covered with the same carpet are also placed, backlit from above, focusing attention on the pieces and highlighting their aesthetics or fame.
Ceiling:
In some areas, a false ceiling with illuminated LED panels is installed.
The ceiling is covered with tensioned semi-transparent fabrics, in the same colors as each room, but allowing a glimpse of the La Capella space.
«Domestic» aesthetic spaces are created, while still preserving the unique environment of the exhibition.
