ZOOTROPO design
The installation of a zoetrope at the Comic Strip Museum in Brussels
Proposal for the design of a wooden zoetrope installation, 4 meters wide, on a rotating base, decorated with modernist motifs.
The installation features 17 frames from the short film «Little Nemo» by artist Winsor McCay, created in 1911, where he animated over 4000 drawings on paper. These characters are taken from his comic strips (displayed at the Comic Strip Museum in Brussels in a temporary exhibition) and coincide with the peak of the Art Nouveau movement in Belgium, which is reflected in some of his comics.
Located on one side of the ground floor of the museum, but with 360-degree access, the installation utilizes the overhead light of the room to illuminate it.
